The Straits Times writes:
BRITAIN'S success in combating a computer annoyance called spam gives hope to users in Singapore and elsewhere in the world who are plain fed up with the unsolicited e-mail. The relief to choked British computer mailboxes came in the wake of new laws aimed at countering junk e-mail. Under the legislation, enacted last September, spammers could be fined £5,000 ($15,200) in a magistrate's court or face an unlimited penalty from a jury.

IDG Communications, Hong Kong  relates:
About 50 percent of all e-mail received in Hong Kong is spam and could be costing the economy up to HK$10 billion a year, according to survey findings released today by the Hong Kong Internet Service Providers Association.
