Press Release June 2003
SpamBully.com Gives Email Spammers a Black Eye

Spam Bully is an email spam filter that easily integrates into Outlook and Outlook Express. It is a new breed of spam filter that is self-learning. It learns from each user's unique email habits. It has been pre-programmed and lab tested on thousands of different spam emails, so it knows what to recognize as spam from the moment it is installed. Each user is then able to take Spam Bully a step further and train it to recognize their own unique email habits. By doing this, unwanted pornography, no money down real estate pitches, chain letters, and the like are now sent directly to a special spam folder. Important business email, notes from friends, and the newest baby pictures are sent to the inbox where they belong.

Spam Bully's self-learning email filter utilizes a probability based mathematical theory developed by an 18th century British clergyman named Thomas Bayes. Bayes' theorem is based on the number of times an event has or has not occurred and the likelihood it will occur in the future. Using Bayes' theories in conjunction with email filtration allows Spam Bully to determine the probability that an email is "spam" based on the words it contains. Spam Bully's Bayesian filter was created from over 35,000 spam messages, allowing it to intelligently learn which words spammers are likely to use. Spam Bully will adapt itself to a user's own email preferences and over time continually adjusts to new types of spam.

In addition to its self-learning filter, Spam Bully utilizes several other popular techniques for blocking spam. Email may be bounced back to spammers making them think a user's email address is no longer valid. A "friends" list allows for email from family, friends, and coworkers to bypass Spam Bully and a "spammers" list makes sure that known spam addresses will be blocked. Users may also allow or block email from entire internet domain names with this feature. Attachment blocking for the Outlook version limits exposure to email-borne viruses. Finally, comprehensive graphing allows the user to monitor Spam Bully's effectiveness. Almost every feature is fully customizable.

Spam Bully is for use with Windows 98/ME/NT/2000/XP/2003 running Outlook 2000/2002/XP/2003 or Outlook Express 5, 5.5 or 6 email programs. It is free to try for 14 days. Single user licenses are $29.95. Multi-user licenses are available at volume discounts.
